You’ll Love This Meditation Series!

Two incredibly wise teachers have teamed up to create free, online 21-Day meditation experiences. Each day for 21 days, there is a new meditation for you that you access online or through their free app. Each meditation is less than 20 minutes. In each meditation, both Oprah and Deepak Chopra talk for a few minutes about a concept or experience before we meditate. This is probably my favorite part of the program. The content is so inspiring, rich, and calming. No matter what struggles I’m navigating, their words never fail to make me feel like “everything is already alright”. After their intros, Deepak gives us a mantra meditation. We repeat the mantra silently for maybe 10 minutes… and then you’re feeling focused and uplifted!

I loved the Hope in Uncertain Times program so much that I bought it, and have done it several times since then. I will return to it often in the future.

Celebrating Freedom!

Happy 4th of July week! As the US celebrates freedom and liberty, we wish you sparkling health and freedom from the symptoms of the western diet:

Tequila vs Wheatgrass

2017: Be the Change

Whew! We made it through crazy, tumultuous 2016! We hope that 2017 will be a year of healing for our selves, relationships, communities, country, and world.

As we set our goals for the coming year, let’s remember Gandhi’s advice to “be the change you wish to see in the world”, to think globally, and act locally. If we are not kind to ourselves, with our thoughts, lifestyle, and nutrition, it is much harder to be kind to our loved ones and the larger community. If we are eating inflammatory foods, we will think inflammatory thoughts, speak inflammatory words, and engage in inflammatory actions.

Are We Having Fun Yet?

Despite initial complaints about the exorbitant price, the best money I spent in the recent past were tickets to see Jerry Seinfeld and then Steve Martin/Martin Short with a group of friends. Tears streaming down our faces, we laughed hysterically for the entire length of both shows. Walking out of the show, we all felt lighter, more radiant, connected, and enjoyed a dramatically improved sense of well being. Even though months have passed since the last show, I can call up that feeling any time I reminisce about the show.

I regularly turn to Ralph Waldo Emerson’s Success poem when I need to remind myself of what’s important. Although the entire poem is full of timeless wisdom and guidance, the first line is perhaps the easiest and most accessible on a daily basis; To laugh often and much.

Despite engendering that delicious sense of joy, laughter not surprisingly has excellent effects on your overall health! It is considered a mild workout which oxygenates your entire body, burns a few calories, and tones your abdominals. It might not give you buns of steel, but laughter provides many of the benefits of regular exercise.

As you continue to laugh, your heart rate increases (perhaps more effectively than regular exercise), your circulation improves, inflammation goes down, pain decreases, immunity improves via increased killer T cell activity, and blood sugar improves. Your mind even benefits through better memory, increased endorphins, and less stress.

Unless you’re paying for expensive comedian tickets, laughter is free and all around you. Kids are especially helpful for finding hysterical clips on the internet. Here’s a few links to get you started:
